The internet doesn't quite lend itself to expression of romance and affection, but when a guy pulls off a cool proposal on the Web and does it just right, it can be pretty spectacular.
Tyrel Hartman used a blog proposal posted on StumbleUpon to convey his feeling for Marquita Arguello, his girlfriend of six years in an amazing marriage proposal.
Thanking the StumbleUpon team, Tyrel stated, "I am so happy to be engaged to my best friend and I can't thank you enough for helping me.
"I've been wanting to ask her for the better part of a year, but I knew I couldn't settle for just any proposal. The whole thing turned out better than I ever could have imagined."
Though online proposals are commonplace, what makes this proposal so unique is that Tyrel managed to take the help of the community team at StumbleUpon.
StumbleUpon helped Hartman propose girlfriend:- The couple, living together in Wyoming were avid stumblers and spent fun times surfing the social bookmarking site.
Though online proposals are commonplace, what makes this proposal so unique is that Tyrel managed to take the help of the community team at StumbleUpon.
He sent an email to the StumbleUpon Support Team stating, "I'm exploring ways to propose to my beautiful girlfriend and I think I have finally thought of something worth while."
To his utmost surprise, the engineers agreed to rig Marquita's StumbleUpon account.
The creative proposal:- The community team worked with Tyrel to make the timing and the results of his stumbling plan perfect. "Tyrel selected several sites themed around love and included a funny cartoon, the greatest wedding photo of all time, a video of a dog saying "I love you," and a graphic with the words "Say yes!" leading up to his final blog proposal," stated StumbleUpon in its official blog.
In the proposal blog, Tyrel held a series of signs that collectively read, "To my best friend…whom I love. You are so amazing, and so smart, even more beautiful. So on this day, I want to ask you: Will you marry me?"
Though technical glitches delayed the proposal by half an hour, the creative effort worked and an ecstatic Marquita accepted.
"I couldn't believe it when all of the sudden we stumble on this website with a picture of this guy with the exact same eyes as Ty! You couldn't see his whole face in the first picture. After that I knew what it was and just lost it. Then I said, ‘Yes, of course!'" said Marquita.

Though Google has been tight-lipped about how much power its vast data farms suck up, last week the company gave outsiders a first glimpse into its energy use and emissions.
On Thursday, the internet search and services giant disclosed details of energy consumption by its data centers and offices for the year 2010. Google claims to be carbon neutral. By using renewable energy from large solar panels in Mountain View and two wind farms, along with purchasing carbon offsets, the internet giant has managed to reduce its greenhouse emissions to zero since 2007.
Gary Cook, an IT analyst at Greenpeace stated: "We've seen lots of leadership from Google on clean energy investment and climate advocacy, but not in terms of transparency. It's good to see them finally put their carbon footprint data on the table."
Google claims to be carbon neutral. By using renewable energy from large solar panels in Mountain View and two wind farms, along with purchasing carbon offsets, the internet giant has managed to reduce its greenhouse emissions to zero since 2007.
In-depth details posted:- According to the figures released on a new webpage called "The Big Picture," the total energy consumed by the company's facilities, its 29,000 employees, and its other operations was roughly 260 million watts last year.
The company also emitted 1.46 million metric tons of carbon dioxide in 2010, with 1.2 million metric tons coming from data centers and offices. Google's vehicles added about 11,000 tons of emissions, while traveling, construction, and commuting contributed another 207,000 tons.
Though its power consumption appears large, Google claims it is just about 0.01 percent of the world's electricity usage.
In a blog post, Urs Hoelzle, Google's senior vice president of technical infrastructure stated: "We've worked hard to reduce the amount of energy our services use. In fact, to provide you with Google products for a month - not just search, but Google+, Gmail, YouTube and everything else we have to offer - our servers use less energy per user than a light left on for three hours."
Efficiency measures:- Google claims to be carbon neutral. By using renewable energy from large solar panels in Mountain View and two wind farms, along with purchasing carbon offsets, the internet giant has managed to reduce its greenhouse emissions to zero since 2007.
Google's power usage from renewable sources was 25 percent in 2010 which is expected to increase to 35 per cent by 2012. Also, by focusing on issues such as power distribution, cooling, and ensuring hot and cool air don't intermingle at the company's facilities, Google has decreased its energy consumption.
Hoelzle stated: "For the last decade, energy use has been an obsession. We've designed and built some of the most efficient servers and data centers in the world, using half the electricity of a typical data center."
"Our newest facility in Hamina, Finland, opening this weekend, uses a unique seawater cooling system that requires very little electricity," Hoelzle added.

An interesting new survey finds that Britons are obsessed with Facebook. Granted, social networking is one technology that people cannot live without, but for it to become more vital than flushing a toilet is little bizarre!
In a spot poll of 3,000 adults conducted by London's Science Museum, the researchers picked 50 things one cannot live without and found that staying connected on Facebook came fifth, leaving flushing toilet, a shower, email and Twitter behind. Cell phones also ranked higher than services like Google, Ebay, iPod, Nintendo Wii, iPad and Xbox. The poll found Brits considered sunshine the most important thing for living followed by the internet.
Survey findings:- The survey was part of their project 'Water Wars: Fight The Food Crisis.' The poll found Brits considered sunshine the most important thing for living followed by the internet. Clean drinking water gained the third spot, owning a fridge the fourth while NHS bagged the sixth spot.
The museum's exhibition manager, Sarah Richardson, stated, "Brits are obsessed by the weather, so it's not surprising sunshine was rated as the top thing we couldn't live without. But to say you can't live without material things over drinking water is crazy.
"It seems having fresh drinking water is something that many of us take for granted but is becoming scarcer in many parts of the world. If you see how little water others have to drink or grow food you soon realise water is fast becoming a luxury for millions."

At number ten, cell phones also ranked higher than services like Google, Ebay, iPod, Nintendo Wii, iPad and Xbox.
